The PC version of Spider-Man 2 is out tomorrow for Steam and Epic Games Store, but the radio silence around its system requirements had prompted confusion about what to expect from the port — and what machines could even run it. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 welcomes players back to the hustle and bustle of New York City and puts Miles Morales and Peter Parker into the shared spotlight. While the adventure to take down Kraven is mostly linear, offering players a straightforward narrative, there’s still a lot of side content to dive into, like combat challenges, collectibles, quests, and much more. For the first time in the series, you can now switch between both Spider-Men, using their individual skills to explore different parts of the story. [newline]This isn’t just a simple character swap mechanic – how you use them is fundamental to how you progress through the game.

The DualSense features the same color scheme and pattern, with the Spider-Man logo front and center on the touchpad. On top of that, it’s expected to set the scene ahead of the game’s arrival, giving us further insight into what Peter, Miles, and MJ have all been getting up to since their last appearance. As well as this, Scott Porter – who voiced Harry Osborn in the first Spider-Man game – confirmed that the character will be appearing in the sequel. In a now-deleted tweet, the actor revealed that, while the character will be coming back, he will not be lending his voice to the role.

Spider-Man 2 is a fantastic game that is typically difficult to find fault with, so it’s a shame that the PC version has such serious issues at launch. With 2023’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games delivered yet another pulse-pounding superhero adventure, one that built on the foundation laid by the beloved 2018 game and took everything to the next level. Spider-Man 2 is still one of the best superhero games you can play, but it’s best to stick with the PS5 version over the PC port for now. At the center of the plot are the relationships of the heroes with characters from their surroundings, against the backdrop of typical superhero routine and important socio-social issues. The multilayered narrative spans a long period of game time, allowing for the inclusion of many events and characters at the expense of depth in their development.

On PS5 in 2023, Spider-Man 2 at least served as an impressive technical showcase for the hardware, and a blockbuster release in a relatively quiet release schedule. On PC in 2025, without those advantages and in a disappointingly shaky state, it’s much more difficult to recommend. In a story ultimately all about the emotional stakes and the cast’s relationships with each other, the actual personalities are remarkably flat. Almost everyone fills essentially the same role (Incredibly Nice Genius) and the addition of Miles’ supporting cast means there’s twice as many of them chattering at you. Overall, the game is a phenomenal experience, and its 32 missions are all rich and full of content. At the end of the game’s second act, Peter saves Miles from Kraven before the two Spider-Men face off, as Miles tries to get Peter to give up the Symbiote. Miles defeats Peter and captures the Symbiote before the two of them bring the alien suit back to the destroyed rubble of the April May foundation. This fight concludes the game’s second act and sets up a tense final act, as Peter and Harry are set to face off as enemies. Despite the disappointment, it’s unlikely that any DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would’ve been very exciting. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be exclusively released on PS5 on October 20, 2023 at midnight, local time.

This was their chance to really expand on the world they had established, and they missed the mark completely. The first 75% of the game is dedicated to a mostly boring villain plot while the actual interesting plot builds in the background, occupying the last 25%. Venom isn’t around long enough either, especially for the impact they act like he had on the city, but it just about made all the waiting worth it. Especially with the added personal connection between Spider-Man and Venom, really highlighting Venom as the dark mirror of Peter. OK8386 were high when the teasers at the end of both Spider-Man and Miles Morales teased the arrival of Venom. And, thankfully, it’s the only part of the story they actually did well.

Miles helps her out, and later on, she sends him info on Kraven’s shenanigans in gratitude. Mysterio’s working at the park as well, running an augmented reality project. The young webhead has to battle through various scenarios, thinking Mysterio’s using the hallucination tech for crimes. Lizard creates one of the game’s best chases as the hunters and Spider-Men try to nab him across NYC’s waterways. Thankfully, Peter and Miles get to him first, beat him down, and cure him. Connors, after all, is the key to studying the symbiote and helping ensure it doesn’t fully possess Peter.

Traversal too, is more of the same, but that’s hard to knock when swinging around the city as Spider-Man feels this damned good. Although the game’s map is now expanded beyond Manhattan isle to include truncated facsimiles of the outer boroughs (WTF is “Downtown Queens?”), zipping around at breakneck speed is more exhilarating than ever. Utilizing the PS5’s internal solid-state drive, players can seamlessly fast travel at the touch of the map once they’ve spent enough time in each neighborhood.

During his final battle with Spider-Man, Harry temporarily gains lucidity and urges his friend to destroy Venom, at the cost of his own health. Peter reluctantly complies with Harry’s wishes, destroying the symbiote, with Harry rendered comatose from the ordeal. Of all the enemies that Peter Parker and Miles Morales face in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, few are as terrifying and relentless as Venom.

And although it means the loss of the endlessly entertaining sequences of a masked up Spidey taking the subway, it shows once again that Insomniac are one of the few developers capable of showing off the flashy speeds of an SSD. And although it makes the larger map somehow feel smaller, the density of detail crammed in each city block helps make the world feel alive. The one universal truth among gamers is that all lamented the Mary Jane Watson portions of 2018’s game. Plodding in execution and pace, they served only to show how mundane a Spider-Man game could be without Spider-Man. Thankfully, the developers have taken note and, although they haven’t omitted alternative character sections, they have substantially improved them.
